New updates for the site!

I made a whole new main page lmao. about a month ago I started working on music, I made my first song, uploaded it to my makertube and made a page discussing it and future songs 🎵

if you've seen the rest of the last week I did a couple updates for the home page along with making a badge for the website anyone can use on their website :)

I also recieved some feedback that having a dark background is difficult for some to read so I added a toggle light and dark mode. right now dark is the default as it fits the theme of what I want to do with the site and the light mode only changes the background, not the text or borders yet as I want to think about what colors will go well with it, be readable and still fit the site's theme

along with that it gave me the idea to add a second button to toggle the open dyslexic font to also help with readability (tbh it's what I use for reading pretty often)

you might've also seen last month I uploaded new art of my fursona as well as 3D renders of her and a sega saturn controller on the art page

Ideas for upcoming projects

originally I wanted to host the song on my website but I currently have a free account on neocities bc I don't have money lmao

I think eventually my plan is to host my site on my own so that I might host songs here and maybe even make my own custom player for them :)

I think to do that I might actually need to write something in javascript, bc I already have some light scripts for light mode and the open dyslexic font I don't think it'll be a big deal to make more but I'll need to brush up on my javascript lmao

an idea that I have for this is possibly integrating my sona's model into the player as a visualizer which I think will be really cool :3

that's probably going to be a ways off, I need to learn how to animate her, learn how to integrate all this into the website and of course make more music lmao

in the meantime I will be maing more things and I'm really excited to be making so much art again! 🥰

Making Patches

DIY Patches

So I've been making my own patches for my jacket, pants, bra, etc for years now and it's alot of fun and easy to do. They don't require a ton of bespoke materials and the ones you need can be gotten pretty cheap. This guide will show you how to make the patch and also how I sew it onto my clothes.

DISCLAIMER: The clothes I've been adding patches to have been either canvas or denim. If you want to add these to leather you will need larger needles and thread than I use in this guide. Besides that this guide should still be applicable if you do decide to work with leather.

Fabric Materials

You don't really need to get new material for patches. Using clothes that no longer fit or thrifting is an excellent way to get material. Personally I had alot of black cloth and aprons from my old waitress job and that works really well. They're Polyester and it's a great material for this but if you don't have that denim or canvas work just as well.

Supplies

Besides the Fabric you will need:

Acrylic Paint
Paint Brushes (small fine brushes work best)
Mixing Palette (can be anyplace you're ok with putting paint on)
Cup of water
Chalk
Scissors
A surface to paint on (I just use old cardboard)
Sewing Needles
Needle Threader
Safety Pins (1 for each side of your patch, 2 if you make it a circle)
Fabric Thread

Also Recommended:

Sewing Scissors
Acrylic Markers or a black Permanent Marker
A Hair Dryer

Painting

Once you have an idea for your patch and the materials you can get ready to paint it :)

Start by taking your fabric and cutting out a piece to be made into a patch.

If you're unsure what size you want you might want to measure it and however much room you have on the clothes you're planning on sewing this patch to.

You might also want to make your rough sketch in chalk before you cut out your patch so you can visualize the size.

If you didn't make your rough sketch in chalk before cutting your piece of fabric out then do it now.

If you make a mistake in the chalk you can use a wet cloth to remove it. Be sure to let it dry before you begin painting.

Now is the time to actually start painting! :)

Use a fine detail brush (idk if brush sizes are standardized but the one I used was a 4 and it might've been a bit too big) and start painting over your rough sketch.

The best advice I have for text is to keep your hand steady and very lightly brush them on. Start from wherever you're comfortable with writing so your hand doesn't accidentally rest in fresh paint, for me it's left to right, top to bottom.

Once you've finished going over it once wait for it to dry, if you want you can speed this up with a hair dryer but make sure you have a way to secure each side so it doesn't blow around and smear paint.

Paint over your design again at least 2 more times so the paint stays bold once it's all dry. You should have at least 3 layers of paint.

Sometimes I make mistakes and get paint on an area I didn't mean to so I go over those with a black marker, acrylic or permanent markers work.

now you just need to let it dry :) if you have a hair dryer you can use it (make sure it's secured down like last time).

Once it's all dry you can use a wet cloth to remove any of the chalk that's left on there and it's ready to sew onto your clothes!!

Sewing

So alot of sewing patches are up to personal preference. I'm going to show you how I sew patches but if you don't want to do it this way feel free to do it however you like :)

I'm self taught so I understand if my methods could use some improvement.

I am also away for this style of patches some people use dental floss, I've never really had the chance to experiment with it bc I can just never find unflavored floss. It's usually mint when I look and that artificial mint scent smells skunky to me after a while I don't like it. I also don't know how well it does in the wash.

If you want to try tho feel free :)

before I start a couple quick tips:

be patient this can take a while and going too fast can get the tread knotted or tangled and it might snap
I use my other hand to keep the string taught as I thread it to try and keep the string from getting tangled
try to keep the clothes under the patch flat as you sew, it helps keep it so the patch sits where it's supposed to when it's done

Use safety pins to position and loosely hold your patch onto the clothes

put your needle threader in the eye of the needle and then the thread thru that, pull the threader out of the needle and the thread should've come with it.

Start from under the clothes and pull the needle thru close to the edge of the patch then bring the needle down thru the patch, and repeat down one side until you get to the end.

You can remove the safety pin now for this side as it's secure enough on it's own

There's some room between stitches here bc we're going to head back the other way repeating the process until you get to the beginning of your stitching

Flip the clothes over and tie both ends of the thread together several times, like 4-5 any less and it might come undone.

There you go one side is done :D

I do it this way bc if the thread breaks or comes undone it's just one side that I have to restitch. I also have better luck with the stitching staying together like this.

That is essentially the whole process, repeat it 3 more times and you're all done sewing!

That's how I do my patches hopefully this helps you make your own and decorate your battle jacket with your own art :)

Now as a bonus here's some tips about caring for these patches.

Washing clothes with patches you made

Depending on the material you use the patch might fray along the edges overtime and washing the clothes it's on might accelerate that.

This isn't really an issue with the polyester and probably won't be a problem if you use denim.

I do machine wash my battle jacket and other clothes with patches. I wash them in the dark load in cold water.

I let them air dry I don't machine wash them.

Acrylic paint doesn't wash off and the fabric thread doesn't usually break in the wash. Of the many years I've washed these clothes it's happened maybe 3 times.

Acrylic markers do come off after a while, it happens slowly enough that I usually just touch them up when they start coming off.

I'm Updating some stuff on my site

Mostly backend stuff I'm using a static site generator 11ty so it's easier for me to write updates.

Before I did this it was just me making stuff via html from scratch lmao. Now I can write these posts and update my pages in markdown :)

As far as new things, I moved which is kinda the reason I haven't been around much here. Now that I have I have some free time to work on the things I've been meaning to do (like those videos).

I have a phone now that can do decent video and am learning some stuff in kdenlive so I can do video editing in there.

My PS1 Python Program

Ok so I went a lil wet and wild with this one

So that script I did a little over a week ago? a few nights ago I thought "I should get back into python programming" then went "dummy why didn't you write your script in python?" and honestly...yeah I didn't have a good reason lol.

Best reason I could come up with is the origin of that script was just something for me to use but as I told my friends about it they thought it was cool and I figured if I found something like this useful maybe others would too. Usually when I write small scripts for myself I just do bash scripts bc they're simple and I'm usually just trying to string cli commands together anyway so it just became that. As you can tell by this post I wasn't really happy with that and decided it was a good project to jump back into python with, I mean I got the stuff running and sure enough I rewrote it wihtin a few hours in python so how much work could it be?

Well, I decided after rewriting it that it should really have a gui to streamline it better for users. The point was to make stringing the programs used in it easier right? So I learned alot bc this was the first time I really did a full gui program and one that utilized threading. Both those aspects ballooned the workload for this project lol. In the end tho I'm glad I did it bc I learned alot and this honestly feels like a substantial program even if the functionality remained the same, which is why I kept the original bash script if you want do use this but just prefer running it in a terminal.

Once again the program can be found here if you'd like to use it :) be sure to check the README as getting it ready to use is a bit different this time around.

also if you'd like here's a desktop file if you'd like to open it from your start menu after it's all set up :3

Once you've set up the program as it says in the README put the contents of the folder where you'd like (you'll need them all in the same folder) and add that to your

$PATH

then change the folder paths in the file accordingly

After that remove the ".download" at the end of the file name (you may need to turn on view file extentions to see it) then add that .desktop file to:

then it should appear in your systems programs! :D

None of this is necesary for you to use it but it's just an extra convience you know?

As for my future endeavours I want to document my experience diving into the playstation homebrew scene and this work. I also want to make more stuff like this in python :) my goal is to make tools for retro game homebrewing more accessible on linux. Idk how far I'll go with that (I learned alot with this but I should probably study more python stuff lol) but it's something I feel good about doing

PS1 Bash Script

So I made a script for PS1 game ripping

Yeah lol so I basically got taken by a fae mood and decided to write a bash script to make ripping PS1 games and repackaging them for PSP in linux easier lol. Originally this was just going to be my usual quick and dirty script to just make my workflow easier but then I began adding things that made it more professional (at least to my standards...so stable lol)

This is just bc when I find new PS1 games I'm usually not actually playing them on my OG Playstation I usually want to play them on my PSP/Vita bc it's portable. Automating the injest process of these games makes it easier for me and I figured I'm not the only one who has this workflow or desire to make it easier.

My script isn't anything grand, it's barely 100 lines lol, it's really just to make this specific workflow easier for myself and other linux users. In the future I would love to get into more complex programming to help make homebrew tools for linux :)

I think the biggest issue I have with it right now is that I couldn't get cdrdao to format .cue files in a way that emulators and the pop-fe tools would accept for a PS1 game. It doesn't matter for this use case (the .bin files are fine) but I wouldn't reccomend using this for anything archival (not that this was my intention), Please use something else for proper .cue files for now.

If I get that fixed I'll update this post to reflect that. I mean like I said before this really just ties in other programs together, you could just use any other cd ripping program that does this correctly, as long as you name it the same as this script's naming scheme (it takes the title of the disc and asks if it can't find one) cdrdao will skip the process and the program will continue with the other parts.

You might be wondering "why PCSXR for the emulator?" and the answer is really just bc it's FOSS, makes it easy to recommend and it's available in several package managers.

It can also start and load a game from the CLI so it can be added into the script.

I also ran into issues with Duckstation, I orginially tried it bc it was available as a flatpak and I really just use the PS1 emulators I install to test my rips but after failing to get any files I made to run in there I tried PCSXR to do a sanity check and the files worked. Given the controversies with it tho I wouldn't recommend it anyway.

Anyway I intend to do more projects with PS homebrew and just documenting my journey with it in general so I'll post updates about that when I can!

Sorry about the Hiatus

Sorry about the hiatus :c

So I've not really been working on much lately, those close to me know why. I know now looking back at the last couple months that I was depressed. Pretty soon after my intro post I had a breakup with my girlfriend. She sort of just stopped talking to me, no reason and never got an answer.

It very negatively affected me obviously, I stopped working on my video, this site, my servers, most of my mods (I did some for friends in the meantime) and even patches besides just restitching them.

I'm better now, I'm poly and while it still hurt alot I still have my wife and her partners to help me so I was dependent on her for housing or anything.

Recently tho I've been making some friends who've gotten me passionate again about these things. I got new tools for mods and I submitted my run of a level in SMS Sonic 2 that got accepted here

So besides my usual stuff I'm gonna try and stream practice runs for SMS Sonic 2 :)

Right now my current projects are:

More Modding my DS Lite
Streams of speed run practice and shiny hunting
Various things I want to do with Raspberry Pis (more on these later)
My iPod video
Website updates

These are not in any order, I'm probably going to do work on alot of these simultaneously.

Knowing my own limitations

A bit more bad news unfortunately :(

I suffer from an old head injury that severely limits how much I can do in a day, It's nothing cognative but it affects my balance, energy and I get frequent migraines.

This means updates from me will be slow and steady as I can't do much in a day.

I'll do my best bc I really love doing these things so stay tuned for more things I plan on doing! 💜

Hi so I've been meaning to make this for a few months now but here it is! Me talking about stuff and things.

I've mentioned before but I'm working on creating videos and part of that is written guides for the things I work on when applicable. This is also going to be a space for general things that are on my mind as well as updates on projects/my life.
