Good news I got a job! I'm saving for a car atm but once I've gotten the essentials I want to get back into modding my consoles and hopefully thats in the next few months!
I've only really added my Game Gear, Master System and DS Lite on here bc I haven't really had the chance to do a bunch of hardware mods bc of course those cost money but I have been jailbreaking my Vita, PS3, New 3DS and Wii.
The Vita and Wii don't really need any kind of hardware mod (besides maybe USB C on the Vita) so I probably won't post those on here but I do post about the software mods and playing with what they can do Over on ActivityPub.
the PS3 I do plan on doing a hardware mod to soon and the 3DS has some hardware mods but is not in a condition to show those in due to needing parts for a repair.
I got the 3DS as an import from Japan bc they never released the smaller New 3DS with the face plates in the US and I got one that was a bit worse for wear bc I figured I could do the repairs to it.
I've added USB C and swapped some worn parts already on it but the upper screen started dying. the failure was it would get brighter than max and within a second or too shut the console off. this happened while hodling it steady but moving the screen would also cause it, I believe the screen might be asking for too much power and causing the system to shut down as a fail safe.
I have the replacement screen along with new speakers (bc the 3D slider was broken and that's part of that ribbon) but unfortunately once I got to adding it that the lens came off the old one and I can't reuse it, so I need to get a new lens for it before I can finish that job.
other mods I wanna do are pretty small, just replacing tired PSUs in my PS1 and sega consoles, modding a PS1 to play other regions and optical audio on wither the Saturn or PS1.
One mod I've been considering tho is do a full set of upgrades on another Game Gear which brings me to an issue with some of my older mods.
So if you see my Game Gear and Master System pictures you might notice the Retro Six logo on some of the mods, I don't really keep up to date with alot of retro community stuff including controversies unleash they're big enough that I see them on like bsky or mastodon like the Mod Retro stuff
Shown here on Reddit is a list of sited incidents of Retro Six copying designs, stealing artwork and threatening to clone other projects bc they're too expensive.
I was told about this after I did those mods and posted about them on my site and when I found out I removed any mention in text about them as I didn't want to advertise them.
In the future I plan on removing the USB C mod from my master system, idk if there is another one but getting some kind of USB C board that can safely give 5V shouldn't be too difficult.
the main issue is with my Game Gear which I got a ton of those mods at once bc at the time they were the only ones I could find and like I said I didn't really know Retro Six's issues.
It's on it's third screen, it was originally modded with a new old stock screen that relied on the CFL bulb, and the pads for it partially lifted I don't think I can replace that anymore.
So my eventual plan is to get a new Game Gear, recap it and add in mods that aren't from Retro Six to replace the post on my mods page.
This is bc I don't want to advertise their stuff anymore in images bc I think they're wrong. It's also bc I think it would be fun to do up a new Game Gear and I've seen some new mods that I think would be really cool to do :)
Anyway that's what I wanted to get off my chest really, now that I have a job I can hopefully afford new mods and I'm excited to make a new Game Gear :)
